Yes. They can work as generators due to their special operating principles. If it runs clockwise as a motor, it can run counter-clockwise as a generator. Note that generator operation requires a suitable motor controller with AFE (Active Front End) functionality.
Why can't I use a direct three-phase AC supply to start these motors?
Because the rotor has high inertia and the magnetic fields spin so fast that a static rotor cannot synchronize with the magnetic field instantly. A dedicated driver is required for startup.

The driver should be a vector control VFD with specialized internal software. Compatible series include Siemens 6SE70, Yaskawa CR5, Mitsubishi A740, and B&R P84/P74. Our MH300 series VFD is specifically optimized for these motors.
